7. River WaterErhu is one of the most important Chinese stringed instruments. Its history dates back more than 1000 years. The erhu consists of a wooden or bamboo case with a snakeskin deck, a long neck on which two strings are stretched, and a bow of horse hair. Erhu is used not only as an accompaniment and ensemble instrument in vocal and instrumental music. Since the 20s of the last century, the erhu is also a solo instrument, many solo works have been created for it. Solo for erhu received a special development in the second half of the last century. There is a wide variety of erhu playing techniques and a rich repertoire for this instrument.
