Just would like to share my exeprience with DSD2048 from initial PGGB 9th order files to 15th order and then now the PGGB 25th order. It is no exaggeration to say that the SQ has undergone 2 giant steps up. I can still remeber that 6 months ago when I first reported the success of playing DSD2048 files on Holo May through the Gustard U26 as DDC. I have been using DSD1024 for quite some time but the DSD2048 at that time 9th order still gave me a big surprise in terms if increse in detail and overall sense of being there. But some of my freineds when they come over to listen they found yes there is more details but the sound is a bit congested. Then there was PGGB 15th order. There was a little setback at that time not because of PGGB but only that I found out some crackling noise when I play DSD2048 for longer than 1 hour. With the help of some friends we finally ironed out the cause being the U26 was over heat and also the Holo May also has overheat problem with DSD2048. Some advise from experienced friends was to use an external clock for the U26 and this was spot on. There is no more overheat of U26 but there is still crackling noise from Holo May. Finally I used a cheap but effective method to lower the heat of Holo May. This is by raising it from platform for at least 5cm with whatever high foots or toes one can find. And this is further enhanced by adding a cheap USB charged battery operated fan with 16 degree C wind blwoing towards the Holo May and the Holo May is now cold as winter. And besides no crackling sound ther is no more congested sound but a relaxed and at ease sound comes out. this is the time when the PGGB 15th order is available and bravo this is a big big step up over the 9th order. When I thought theis is already the ceiling and there comes the Rob Reiner edition with DSD2048 25th order. I spent 36 hours to process my Fiddler on the roof broadway album to DSD 2048 25th order and I was really shocked by the result. I literally sit there and listened to the whole album without stop. Can't help but being drawn into the music. The sound is super transparent now so much so that one can hear every detail you can dream of. There is sevearl layer of high frequnecy that one can hear. there is total coherence from low to high and phrases are just as smooth as one wish. Everyone is in its natural position singing or playing their parts. No need to guess. And above all there is a sense of ease and one is listening to real music. I also have a Taiko Olympus in my setup and I would say that for this album I would much prefer the PGGB DSD2048 25th order playing through my Taiko Extreme than playing the PCM 44.1 file through the Taiko Olympus.( Previously the Taiko Olympus playing PCM 44.1 is preferred). Big thanks to ZB for introducing this Rob Reiner edition. This is definitely the version to go for.
