Staged in Berlin by the famous director Reinhardt, it captivated the composer with the emotional power of characters, the frenzy of passions, and the intense dynamics of the action. In direct cooperation with Hoffmannsthal, a number of minor changes were made; the almost complete prose text of the tragedy formed the basis of the opera score. Initially, Strauss doubted the need for a musical embodiment of the plot, with its psychological content very similar to "Salome". However, the desire to contrast the demonic, passionate ancient Greece with the traditionally radiant, humanistic image of Hellas in Goethe and Winkelmann prevailed. Regular work on the music of "Electra" began in the autumn of 1907. In September 1908, the score was completed. The source for the librettist was the tragedy of the same name by Sophocles. Influenced by Nietzsche's fashionable Dionysian philosophy and Freud's psychoanalysis, Hofmannsthal radically rethought its spirit. He deliberately reduced the ethical pathos of Sophocles, abandoned the choral basis of action, and brought the painful nerve of modern art to what was happening. Mythical heroes appeared as the focus of pathological instincts and a symbol of destruction. The atmosphere of universal hatred and militant irrationalism was concentrated by the image of Electra. He embodied the central idea of the authors - the debunking of blind, uncompromising loyalty. The drama of Elektra's life — a frenzied thirst for revenge that brings a tragic death — essentially exhausts the content of the opera. The specific features of decadence, the problem of the disintegration of the human personality are reflected in the characteristics of Clytemnestra. Contrastingly, these images are accentuated by the bright appearance of Chrysophemides. Less attention is paid to male characters, although strauss's initiative greatly expanded Electra's scene with Orestes, a sublime, noble hero. It partially compensated for the oppressive lack of a lyrical-positive element in the opera.

Don Carlo) is a "grand" opera by Giuseppe Verdi in 5 acts, 7 paintings, to a libretto by Camille de Locle and Joseph Meri based on the drama of the same name by Schiller (German: Don Karlos, Infant von Spanien)[1]. However, the basis for one of the acts - a scene in Fontabbleau - was another novella on the same plot: "Philippe II, King of Spain" (Philippe II, Roi d'Espagne), authored by the French playwright Eugène Cormon.
It premiered at the Paris Opera on 11 March 1867.
The full version of the opera in five acts with ballet lasts about four hours and is Verdi's longest-running opera; during the composer's lifetime and after his death, numerous, shorter editions appeared. Outside of France, opera is usually performed in Italian in a translation by de Lozières.
Verdi's Don Carlos is the fifth opera of this title after works by Michael Costa (1844), Pasquale Bona (1847), Antonio Buzzolla (1850) and Vincenzo Moscusza (1862). Bonus: opera story and synopsis (in English and Italian)About opera
